first offshore racer, designed in conjunction with fellow
Vosper apprentice, Graham
Stevens who was later to become Don Shead's chief Naval
Architect. Highland Fling ran in Class II and was very
fast in the calm and long swells but needed more deadrise
for choppy head seas. She took the World Offshore powerboat
speed record in 1971 at 85.6 mph.
